The Roman Baths of Aquae Flaviae are among the finalist heritage sites in the New 7 Wonders® of Portugal competition, in the History category, bringing the name of Chaves to one of the most important initiatives for the valorization and promotion of national heritage.

From the 629 applications submitted to the competition, the Panel of Experts selected three heritage sites per category in each region of the country, for a total of 147 finalists qualified for the next phase of the competition. The Roman Baths of Aquae Flaviae are among the distinguished heritage sites, reinforcing the recognition of the historical and cultural importance of this remarkable Roman legacy.

Considered the largest Roman thermal bath complex in the Iberian Peninsula, it constitutes one of the most important testimonies of the Roman presence in the territory and of the thermal tradition that continues to mark the identity of Chaves from ancient Aquae Flaviae to the present day.

Public voting is already underway to determine which heritage sites will advance to the next stages of the competition. The regional semi-finals begin on June 13th, with live broadcast on TVI.

The participation and mobilization of the Chaves community, visitors, and all admirers of national heritage will be fundamental in supporting the Roman Baths of Aquae Flaviae on this journey towards being elected one of the New 7 Wonders® of Portugal.
